BIOGRAPHY

Comprising of lead vocalist and Rhythm Guitarist Steve Wells, Lead Guitarist Jimi Cook, Bass Player Paul Pugh and Drummer Neil Kenton, Candidates are an original Upbeat Indie Rock N Roll band based in Milton Keynes, England.

The band came together with a desire for new beginnings, clicking from the very first note of the very first rehearsal, and the four have not looked back, amassing an impressive total of over 40 live shows in only their first year. There is a close family culture both within the band and amongst their loyal supporters that you can just ‘feel’ when you experience them live.

With Candidates, everything is about the songs, songs that lyrically reach out and call for the people to stand up as one against the almost impossible day to day that we know all too well, and songs that show that it’s ok to not be ok. All served over a bed of contagious lead guitar riffs, intricate fuzzy-cool bass lines, soaring vocals and hard hitting drum beats.

The band have enjoyed great support from local radio stations to Milton Keynes such as MKFM, CRMK and Radio LaB 97.1FM, but perhaps more notably being featured regularly on BBC Introducing Northampton, and even being asked on to the show for the full hour in June 2018 as they discussed their staggering progress in such a relatively short time in comparison to their peers.

In March 2018, Candidates supported 90s Indie favourites Space at Oxfords O2 Academy, and then went on to secure triumphant festival performances at Silverstone Woodlands (both F1 and Moto GP weekends), Penn Fest and TribFest as the band marched on, touring a collection of songs that would bring their audiences to move their feet and forget the monotonous aggro of daily life.

LIVE DATES

"Retrobeat is in it's 18 year of providing a night of escapism from today's tedious music scene. The much anticipated performance from Candidates propelled the Retrobeat crowd back to the 90s; with musical influences from bands such as The Stone Roses, Oasis and The Charlatans. The crowd were immediately brought to their feet regaled by Candidates' nostalgic sound. The 5 piece band captivated the audience with eloquent lyrics accompanied by a tenacious indie rock n roll beat. Top lads, top night!"

-James Taylor, Retrobeat  @ The Horseshoe Inn, Wellingborough

-Gareth Warren, The Sunset Lounge Presents... @ The Cannon Pub, Newport Pagnell

"With a huge bold sound projection on stage.... I was blown away! Candidates are a must see live band. Catchy tunes that stay put in your head for days. The haunting track 'Medicine' could easily be mistaken for a Noel classic. I look forward to catching Candidates again soon.

-Suzanne Fletcher, Milton Keynes live music and MAH promoter

"was lucky enough to see Candidates recently, a perfect selection of songs delivered in a way that is way beyond most bands at their level. An originality about them that is rarely seen these days that can only lead to bigger and better things. Go see them and it will definitely not be the only time you do"

"HOLY CRAP these lads who have been touring like mad the last 11 months have fast become one of my new favorite bands! The stage presence, the catchy riffs, the timeless vocals and the dance till you drop tune after tune pouring off the stage during their set is something to be seen. Their drummer just DOES NOT STOP! Whoever kept adding the 20p's to keep him going....we thank you. It is rare that I meet a bunch of lads that were so incredibly nice...nice is such a crap word but these lads were so lovely"

-Alana Ashby, New Legends @ The Fiddler's Elbow, London
